This form is to be used to file a formal grievance with the Graduate School regarding the interpretation or application of the
Marquette University Assistantship Handbook
and applicable Graduate School and University policies as they relate to conditions of an assistantship.
Section 1: Eligibility

Irreconcilable differences with a supervisor or directing faculty
Unresolved difficult collegial working relationships
Assignment of responsibilities outside the scope of the assistantship
Unacceptable working conditions
Excessive workload or inappropriate work hour assignments
This grievance process does NOT apply to:
Tuition and fees
Stipend level
Tuition scholarship
Benefits allocated through an assistantship

Section 4: Description of the Grievance

Section 5: Grievance Review and Appeal Process
Before certifying and submitting this form, review the Grievance Committee Review and Appeal process.
Review Process
Within 10 business days of receipt of this grievance:
The Grievance Committee of the Graduate School will schedule a conversation with the student
The Committee will then schedule a conversation with the supervisor
Additional individuals may be contacted as necessary for fact-finding
A written resolution will be provided to:
The grievant
The directing faculty
The supervising Director of Graduate Studies
Appeal Process
If the decision of the Grievance Committee is not acceptable, the grievant has 10 business days from receipt of the decision to file a written appeal to the Dean of the Graduate School.
The appeal must include:
Description of the issue
Relief sought
Steps taken to resolve the issue
Prior correspondence
The Dean will issue a written response to:

The Dean’s decision is final.
